rotary dryer, oil on acrylic glass, concrete slab, line, staples,2020
A rotary clothes dryer stands in the middle of the exhibition space, a single-membered, crystalline foreign body. Dish towels, cleaning cloths, and bath towels hang from it, just moments ago moved by the wind, now strangely frozen in motion, dripping. It seems as if intense heat has triggered a melting process that has transformed the laundry into a different state of matter instead of drying it. The work cycle Heat it up focuses on unpaid care work and climate change—themes that are often present in the artist's work. Heat it up tells, she writes, "of everyday tasks that are one-sided and unpaid, mostly unseen and done over and over again. Of dull front yards with neighbors in them and the intense heat that was experienced. (Anja Lückenkemper)
